Hi Patricia,

I think you make a very valid point. It's not intelligence or talent by rather the inner strength we can muster at a moments notice that is more important than anything else.

Thank you also for sharing your story. Like you, I will now begin reaching for the stars :)

As someone who has done research into resilient women, I feel impressed by your list of resilience strengthening strategies--nicely organized and descirbed in easy-to-understand language.

I particulary agree with Craig Harper's point of, "I would need to make up for my lack of talent with attitude and perseverance." Yet as the adoptive mother of a 42 year old with Fetal Alcohol Spectum Disorder I want to caution readers in always aiming for the stars. Sometimes by aiming for the stars we can reach the moon. Other times we can end up no-where if our handicaps are not taken into consideration.

Our daughter, for example, wants to be a doctor, wants support in doing so but so far her memory, impusivlity and brain impairment make it a major task to hold down a part-time job caring for toddlers. There are those who need to temper their "whatever it is that their heart desires" with what is realistic. We can't all be rocket sciencists. But we can all take pride and strength when we offer the best of ourselves.

Hi Craig,

Thanks for sharing those great insights. It just goes to show that sticking with our endeavors long-term can be the difference between living a life of fulfillment or a life of regrets.

Personally I tend to reflect from time-to-time on things I did that I didn't stick with. For instance I wonder if I had continued playing guitar over the years, how good I would be today. I guess it's all about opportunity cost. You give up one thing in order to find time for something else. However, if that "something else" is going to prevent me from living the life I want to live, than I guess I need to make better decisions :)
